This is the updated and revised 2007 Focal Point Publications hardcover edition. It revises a work first published as The Destruction of Dresden in 1963 and first issued under the title Apocalypse 1945 in 1995. When this book came out it was the book on what happened at Dresden. I bought this book in probably 2021 or 2022 and at the time I had never heard about the fire bombings of Dresden. This was one of, turns out many, moral failings of the allied forces during the second world war.
Only a few years later having even a surface level knowledge of Dresden would pay off because one of the talking points shortly after October 7th, the event that would kick of Israel’s justification for wiping Palestine and its people off the map, was Dresden. This was a coordinated propaganda talking point that Israel had given to its media figure talking heads when confronted about the inevitable high civilian death count. They appealed to Dresden. As if one war crime committed almost a hundred years ago during a world war was sufficient justification for a modern war crime.
This revised edition presents Irving’s account of the February 1945 bombing of Dresden. It draws on official papers, private records, photographs, and eyewitness accounts from both sides.
