About This Copy

The title page identifies this as the 1882 Harper & Brothers edition of The Boy Travellers in the Far East, Part Second: Adventures of Two Youths in a Journey to Siam and Java, with Descriptions of Cochin-China, Cambodia, Sumatra and the Malay Archipelago. The copyright page records the work’s original entry in 1880.

Its mustard-yellow cloth binding is especially striking. Patterned borders frame silver and red coins, a key, flying birds, and an elephant, while the rear board carries a compact stamped emblem. The copy also retains a vivid color plate of a tropical landscape populated by monkeys and a crocodile.

This 1882 volume preserves an unusually vivid decorated binding and a color illustration from the second journey in Knox’s Far East sequence.
