How This Copy Came to the Library

Why This Book Is in My Library

This volume adds Knox’s journey through Holland, Germany, Scandinavia, and the far north to Drew’s Boy Travellers shelf.

Place in My Physical Library

This volume stands with Drew’s growing shelf of Thomas W. Knox travel and adventure books, between The Boy Travellers in Great Britain and Ireland and another later Knox travel volume.

About This Copy

The title page identifies this as the 1892 Harper & Brothers edition of The Boy Travellers in Northern Europe: Adventures of Two Youths in a Journey through Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, with Visits to Heligoland and the Land of the Midnight Sun. The copyright notice is dated 1891.

The olive-green cloth binding remains highly decorative, with a large pink-and-black maritime scene above gilt scrollwork and a smaller castle vignette below. Inside, the copy retains facing route maps of Holland and Germany, marked in red, and a color plate assembling fjord, waterside, and castle views.

A penciled former-owner inscription records Oliver E. Pinkstone of 1109 East Cass Street in Joliet, Illinois, preserving a geographic trace of the copy’s earlier life.

This pictorial 1892 volume preserves its route maps, color plate, and a former owner’s Joliet inscription.
