This Folio Society collection brings together E. Nesbit’s three stories about the Bastable children: The Story of the Treasure Seekers, The Wouldbegoods, and New Treasure Seekers. All three volumes are illustrated by C. Walter Hodges and are housed together in the publisher’s gray slipcase.
Why I Collect the Boy Travellers # Thomas W. Knox’s Boy Travellers books are fiction, but they grew out of the experience of an American journalist who had travelled widely and reported from different parts of the world. That combination is what makes them so interesting to me. The adventures gave young readers a story to follow, while Knox’s observations, maps, illustrations, and descriptions offered a window onto places most of his American audience would never see for themselves.
These three related Mother West Wind books form a distinct group within Drew’s larger Burgess Bedtime Story Books collection. Each physical volume has its own catalogue record and complete photograph sequence.
How I Discovered Burgess # I learned about Thornton W. Burgess through the Charlotte Mason homeschooling community, particularly through Autumn Kern and The Commonplace. I first learned about these four larger Burgess nature-study books through one of her bookshelf tours. That introduced me to this particular group of books and made me want copies for our own home library.
Reading Burgess Together # These individual animal adventures came before the four larger nature-study volumes in our family’s reading life. Their short, self-contained stories work beautifully as bedtime reading and inspired me to gather more of Burgess’s books.
