Remembering Doug # Doug Keenan was one of my relatives. He recently passed away, so I decided to pick up his books while they are still available. I purchased them in August 2026.
How I Discovered Burgess # I learned about Thornton W. Burgess through the Charlotte Mason homeschooling community, particularly through Autumn Kern and The Commonplace. I first learned about these four larger Burgess nature-study books through one of her bookshelf tours. That introduced me to this particular group of books and made me want copies for our own home library.
Reading Burgess Together # These individual animal adventures came before the four larger nature-study volumes in our family’s reading life. Their short, self-contained stories work beautifully as bedtime reading and inspired me to gather more of Burgess’s books.
